2012 Summer Camp Dates
Please go to the camp registration page to print a summer camp registration form. Please note our new EXTENDED DAY option for morning and afternoon campers.
The Philosophy
Northwestern Tennis Camps are structured to provide a fun atmosphere where kids can improve their tennis skills, have fun, and enjoy the experience of competing as a tennis player. We strive to make every player have a positive experience and to truly love the game.
The Coaches
The Northwestern varsity coaches direct and coach the summer camp program. Their knowledge and hard work have led the NU Women’s Team to ten consecutive Big Ten titles and the 2006 NCAA Doubles Title. All coaches have experience working with players of all ages ranging from beginner to elite status. Director Jennifer Lutgert and Assistant Coach Jackie Holden conduct the camp, along with other Division 1 collegiate coaches and Division I varsity student-athletes.
Structure
Every week consists of a morning session from 9 am - noon, and an afternoon session from 1 - 4 pm. Participants may register for a half day or a full day session. Every session is co-ed, and ages range from 4 yrs to 18 yrs old. Players are grouped according to ability and age. While we do ask that you indicate a level, we will move players based on our evaluation, and we are age-sensitive when necessary. Camp is held at the Vandy Christy Tennis Center, on Sheridan Rd at Colfax St.
Levels
Beginner/Advanced Beginner: Instructors will focus on an introduction to the game, fundamentals of technique, introduction to competition, and fostering a general love for the game.
Intermediate: Intermediate players will continue to improve their skills, learn more difficult variations on standard shots, enjoy an introduction to the intricacies of the game, and improve their match-play.
Competitive Intermediate: These players are ready to start competing in tournaments and are working on moving up to the next level. Focus is on refining technique, improving weaknesses, learning and utilizing strategy, and competing.
Tournament: Participants in this group are expected to play at tournament level, and instruction will concentrate on developing weapons, identifying and improving weaknesses, utilizing tactics, and of course having fun. The Tournament group will meet at NU’s south courts, creating a unique competitive atmosphere.
Private Lessons
In addition to camp programs we also offer private lessons for juniors and adults. Please call 847.491.4534 or e-mail Jen at j-lutgert@northwestern.edu for more information.
Junior Match Play
We incorporate matches into our week of tennis. Every Friday we will hold an inter-camp tournament for our intermediate through advanced players. Beginning players will have “Fun Friday,” with games, prizes, and a fun trip to the beach.
High School and Tournament Training Clinic
An intensive co-ed clinic run for high school and tournament players only. We focus on the technical, tactical, mental and emotional aspects of the game, and address strength and conditioning issues as well. Singles and doubles drilling and playing is incorporated each day.
Rain Policy
We will hold camp at the Combe Tennis Center, 2311 North Campus Drive, in the event of rain. The indoor tennis center won the 2002 USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year award and boasts six courts and state-of-the-art facilities. If you are unsure if we are indoors or outdoors, please stop by the outdoor courts - we will have a sign posted!
Full Day Option
Campers wishing to attend a full day of NU tennis camp will receive a discounted rate of $425 for the full day of camp. Lunchtime from 12-1pm is supervised. Campers must bring their own lunch.
New FREE EXTENDED DAY Option For AM And PM Camps

Families with 2 or more children enrolled in the camp receive a $20 discount on the second child's camp fees. Discount applies if you have 3 or 4 children in camp as well. Please note that you cannot apply both the NU discount and the family discount to one child's camp registration.
